Thomas Brooks Maiden

Carved and Painted Wood Tobacconist Figure of an Indian Maiden, by Thomas Brooks. See Fig. 159, p. 186, Fred Fried’s Artists in Wood for similar figure dated 1875. Unusually beautiful face, full feathered headdress, buckskin dress decorated with feathers, leather leggings, one hand holding a bunch of cigars, the other a box. Older paint with rich patina, cigars in the right hand a later replacement of the original, 82”H, base is 20” x 24”.
